Overview

This itinerary is ideal for the period from May to November when the Southern coastal line gets the monsoon rains. During this time the sea off the south coast is rough, and surfing, swimming, or any other activity is not advised.

But during this time the east coast has sun and favourable waves for you to enjoy a beach holiday. There are many other options for beaches in the east coast, and we can adjust this itinerary to best fit your likes and wishes.

Itinerary

Arrive in the Colombo International Airport.
Transfer to the hotel. Evening walk on the beach, or by the lagoon.

After breakfast depart to Anuradhapura.
Visit the Dambulla cave temples.
Visit the Sigiriya rock fortress.

Anuradhapura, the first capital of the kingdom, lasted 1500 years and was the seat of governance for 134 kings. You can imagine how rich a culture could have been there, and you can still see that ancient glory. Much of its grandeur is still visible.
Mihintale is where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka. It changed the culture and the civilization completely, and brought about a rich heritage we are still living in.

A highly advanced irrigation system and ocean-like tanks made by man would tell you how developed the agriculture was during the Polonnaurwa kingdom. Those irrigation systems and tanks are still in use in Sri Lanka, and protect the livelihood of the farmers in a vast province.
King’s palaces and temples, advanced architecture, and royal gardens are today in ruins but you can have a glimpse of that ancient glory when you visit the sites.

Catch the sight of large herds of elephants in their natural habitat frolicking or feeding, or just standing majestically.

Day 6 :
Pasikudah

Enjoy the long beaches stretching far in to the shallow sea. It’s a day for you to relax on the beach.

Explore the beach, visit the popular Marble beach, and visit the pigeon island. Walk on the beach, enjoy the sun, or take a boat ride if you like.

Day 8 :
Kandy

After breakfast depart from Trincomalee and proceed to Kandy. On the way visit a spice garden and learn about the spices Sri Lanka is known for.
Arrive in Kandy, relax in the hotel, and visit the temple of tooth relic in the afternoon.
Take walk around the Bogambara lake.
Retire to the hotel and enjoy the dinner.

After breakfast visit the Royal Botanical Garden.
Then proceed to Nuwara Eliya.
Enjoy a cup of Ceylon tea at a tea factory restaurant. Enjoy the view of the Rambodda waterfall.

Visit the Horton plains, Ambewela farm, and the Hakgalla botanical garden.
Boat ride in the Gregory Lake.

After breakfast proceed to Galle
Visit the old Dutch Fortress, and have lunch at a hotel in the Fortress.
Arrive in Colombo in the afternoon and visit the city. Buy souvenirs at Laksala, the craft store.
Enjoy a cup of Ceylon tea at a restaurant.
Leave for the airport for the flight back home, and come back another day for more.

Answers to some potential questions.

Do you provide a tour guide?

Yes. A fully qualified and licensed National Tourist Guide Lecturer will accompany you throughout the tour.

Can we replace an item in the itineray with another of our own?

Yes you can. But it should be on our route in the itinerary, or easily reachable from the route. It should be realistic and reasonable but we will try our best to amend the itinerary the way you like it.
Or we can plan a different itinerary for you with your choice of attractions.

Where will we get our lunch? Do we have to go out and find restaurants ourselves?

We will arrange it for you. We will arrange a good restaurant with a great choice of food, and a buffet. It will be a tourist board approved popular restaurant in the area you visit. You will be able to buy your lunch easily. It’s all taken care of.
